Sick Frankenstein Obsession As Exemplified By Julie

TODAY’S BREW: Life Is Good S’mores Coffee. BECAUSE IT IS, SO EAT A S’MORE OR DRINK ONE.

By Julie

I, Frankenstein looms ever closer! I’ve been drooling over this movie coming out, and now I am a day away and THANK GOD BECAUSE I LOVE GOING TO THE MOVIES. And I love all things Frankenstein.

What’s my fascination with Frankenstein’s monster all about? I mean, the original guy is hardly a heartthrob, and it was actually the green dude I fell for first.

Well, let’s get all thinky and stuff. I’ve long had this love of the monster that monstrous man created. He’s a hero to me from the get-go. A creature forced into a life he would never have chosen, unable to control his feelings and impulses. A feared outcast with a gentleness that goes unseen.

He’s a heartsick, primal thing and I want to take care of him.

Mary Shelley describes her creation when referring to herself:

Love and rage, Mary Shelley. Perfectly put, and describes my insides to a tee. I am a monster inside, a terrible, heartbroken beast.

Don’t we all have that in us? In Frankenstein’s monster, I find the beast I want to indulge. The near-animal with the most basic fears and the most complex of emotions. A misunderstood, pieced-together broken man, lost and alone. This is the man I see, when I think of Frankenstein.

I love this!! If anyone knows who the artist is please let me know! Thx :-)

Heartsick to the point of rage and despair. What more could you ask for in your own personal heartthrob? I rarely find the “normal” heartthrobs to be as swoon-worthy as the general public. I like a little monster in my man, to quote Spike from Buffy. And maybe I see a little of myself in the old green man. A being with basic wants and needs, but the most complicated of hearts that desires them.

I know I’m not alone, because look at Kyle in American Horror Story. A human ragdoll creation, destroyed and returned to life by the same hands, with only one overriding feeling inside his heart; love. I WANT THAT.

In short, Frankenstein’s monster, will you marry me? We are both afraid of fire. Call me.

The Sin of American Horror Story Returns in COVEN.

TODAY’S BREW: Pumpkin Shandy. Drop dead, you can’t have any.

By Julie

AMERICAN HORROR STORY, YOU HAVE RETURNED TO ME, JUST LIKE YOU SAID YOU WOULD!

This one is about witches, and frankly, it could probably be about a summer camp and I would think it was original. I cannot wait to get that seedy, a little too dirty feeling I entirely plan on getting from watching this season. That’s my favorite part about this anthology-type series, is that you just feel like you need a shower afterwards. Partly from visions of Zachary Quinto and Dylan McDermott, but mostly because of the intensely psychological, just the right amount out of the box while still being classic horror. The imagery is debilitatingly vivid and sticks with you forever. FOREVER.

This season features the absolutely incomparable Jessica Lange as Fiona Goode, the supreme witch headmistress in an Academy/coven for teenage witches. While this sounds like a plot that’s been done, you then get images like THIS:

I

So, as expected, it promises to be a visual nightmare. GOODY. But the beauty of this show, for me, is that it mixes horror with an undeniable sexuality that makes you squirm just a little more than usual. This season will be no different, in a good way.

What I love about horror…..good horror…..is the sin of it all. Really evocative horror for me, like American Horror Story, is equal parts terrifying and jarring as well as decadently, disturbingly sensual. Forbidden. That’s the beauty of this show, and no matter what any difficult to please critics say, American Horror Story will surely deliver with originality and a grit that no other show on television can match. The filming of it alone gives it a gritty, under the stairs, hidden feel that makes it seem like something you shouldn’t be seeing. I love it. And I cannot wait to see what Coven brings us tonight at 10 on FX.

Tell me what you think.

Vamptober Arrives!

TODAY’S BREW: BLOOD. No, not really, but we’re going for a thing here.

By Julie and Kristen

October is a month near and dear to our hearts here at Deadly Ever after.  There’s cider. Apple picking. Haunted Houses. And speaking of haunted houses, the whole month is just a lead up to HALLOWEEN.

This year, we have even more to celebrate.  Running Home will be available in paperback.  Because The Night will be released just after Halloween.  We want you to celebrate with us! Welcome to Vamptober.

16th Century Vampire Blood

So this is what’s going to be happening:

  • #avampaday:  Check every day for some hot vampire action.
  • Flash Fiction Friday is all horror, all month long.
  • Julie will be handling the TV and entertainment facet of things
  • Kristen will be talking makeup, jewelry, and fashion.
  • Meet the characters of Because The Night!  Character profiles each week.
  • Giveaways!  Win Because The Night and Running Home. Yes, really.  But we’re going to make it fun. No rafflecopter up in this hizzy.

Kristen will be giving you the sauciest, scariest and longest lasting makeup tips for the big day, and folks, she’s a goddamn professional. She knows this. There will be jewelry to spare, too, because we loves us some creepy jewelry.

Julie will give you her unsolicited and unwelcome at times, opinions on American Horror Story starting October 5th, Dracula at the end of the month, and Halloween Wars on the Food Network. Because pumpkin carving is a thing, and Rob Zombie was there last year and if that happens again, you need to know.

Flash Fiction Fridays will rock it with handpicked horror authors, cooking up some craziness that I cannot wait for you all to see.

AND FOR HALLOWEEN THE UNDEAD DUO WILL COLLABORATE ON A SPECIAL FLASH FICTION BIT, FEATURING THE MEETING OF CHARACTERS FROM BOTH RUNNING HOME AND BECAUSE THE NIGHT!

Also, we have a surprise to tell you about coming up soon! A surprise that may or may not have something to do with some of our favorite writers and bloggers, and let me just tell you. You won’t be disappointed.

Follow #VVamptober and #AVampADay on Twitter for updates, probably far too often.

Halloween approaches and we plan on giving you treats, so be ready for the Undead to show you all the tricks up our sleeves.
